Traveling with your pet
Traveling can be stressful, even more, when you have so much to do! If you are planning a vacation and don’t plan on leaving your pet behind, let us provide you with all the answers. Here at El Cid Animal Clinic, our USDA Accredited veterinarian Dr. Garcia, must examine your pet and make sure your pooch is in optimal health to accompany you in your travels.
As you plan your next trip keep in mind that many countries have specific timeframes for vaccines, diagnostic testing and/or other treatments before your travel. Some international and domestic travel often takes several months of perpetration, depending on your final destination. In general, rabies-free countries have more requirements for entrance. Some countries also have other policies we must adhere by like their 120-day waiting period, rabies titer testing, microchipping and over-all vaccine history.
As you schedule your appointment to come in for your health certificate, be sure to inform us if you are traveling within the states or internationally. This way, our staff will get in touch directly with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to meet the requirements for your pet to travel. Also, remember to contact the airline you are flying with. Some airline companies have their own forms that require an accredited veterinarian’s signature.
